Chapter Five

The food was ready, and the table was set. Elizabeth was running around the house like Popeye after spinach, and so was my heart in my chest.

This was the night when I would know if Nicole also felt something for me or not.

I took the longest time in getting ready for an occasion since my marriage, as I made sure that every little detail of my outfit and appearance looked perfect.

I had decided to go for the sexy, yet classy look for the night. My outfit consisted of a strapless bodycon dress, that perfectly hugged every curve of my body, and bared my breasts in a subtle yet sexy way, while the make-up I had on was the costliest money could buy, thanks to my dear sister who had lovingly allowed me to use whatever I wanted.

When I had looked at myself in the mirror, I could hardly recognize myself. I was looking like a completely different woman. Someone who could walk into any room, and grab the attention of every person and eyeball just with a flock of my hair, and the sway of my hips.

Nicole would love me today.

Even Elizabeth had noticed my painstaking preparation for Nicole’s arrival, but she had just brushed it aside by saying it was normal to dress up for the arrival of a superhero, and she too had insisted to wear her favorite pink dress, and glittery shoes, which she would only wear when we went to see a Marvel movie.

As far as food was concerned, I had gone absolutely crazy. How could I not when Nicole had hinted that she was expecting something grand, and grand was what she was going to receive. I had promised her a feast fit for a queen, and Nicole was much more than that, she was a superhero, and I wanted the food to reflect that.

Roasted chicken, with a side of mushrooms, along with a beef steak fried to perfection was already laid on the table. A hundred-year-old wine, that costed more than my entire wardrobe was what would accompany the dinner, and for dessert, I had baked an apple pie, one of my most special dishes, famous across our family for its mouthwatering taste.

I had done my part. Like a teenage girl, preparing her room before her boy friend’s arrival, I had done everything I could to make sure the night went perfect. The only thing that could ruin the night now, was if Nicole suddenly got up and left, like she did a year ago.

But something told me she won't do it now. Something told me, she was in it for good this time.

Ever since our nap together in my bed, where I had laid on her belly, and she had caressed my cheeks, we had not met or talked properly. That night had left a lot of things unsaid between us, and I did not know how we would approach that topic.

Even today, when I was inviting Nicole to dinner, she was on her way to decline the offer, but it was Elizabeth who had finally convinced her to come.
